Isaac, Son of John Messmore, the Swiss emigrant, was born May 7, 1777, died June 16, 1860. He was a native of Fayette County, where his entire life was passed. He owned a farm of one hundred and thirty-five acres in German Township, on which he lived contented and prosperous. He married Martha Dunlap, born in Fayette County, March 27, 1776, died June 12, 1856, daughter of John and Rachael Dunlap. John Dunlap, born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1761 came to this country when quite young and settled on the headwaters of Dunlap creek, whence it took its name, died Sept 5, 1798. His wife Rachel was born 1763, died May 30, 1815. They left three childred.
Children of Isaac and Martha Messmore: 1. Andrew, settled and died in Indiana. 2. Racheal, married Andrew Allebaugh and with him settled near Columbia City, Indiana, where both died. 3. Susan, married Henry Rider; they moved to Liberty, Indiana, where he died; she died at Hamilton, Ohio. 4. Martha, married Philip Lawrence; lived and died near Messmore, Fayette County. 5. Eliza, married Ulrich Newcomer, of this county; moved to Ohio, where he died; she returned to Fayette County and died there. 6. John, lived and died in Fayette County. 7. Isaac, of further mention. 8. Samuel D., settled and died in Indiana. 9. Hannah, the only living member of his family; resides (1912) at Salem Ohio
