Mr. James Byron "Jimmy" Jacobs was born November 11, 1926, in Etoile, Texas. He was the oldest of four boys born to the marriage of James Eugene and Mary Lee Chapman Jacobs. Jimmy served his country through the U. S. Navy during WWII. He graduated Carthage High School, completed Stephen F. Austin University as a history major and attended Baylor University. He married Ruth Gill and together raised four girls in a loving home until she preceded him in death. Mr. Jacobs spent his career with the Dept. of Public Safety, retiring in 1984. Later in life, he met and married Bernice Jimerson. Together they enjoyed their time with both families and their many friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Theresa Ruth Wigington; and his brothers, Robert, Gene and John Jacobs. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather, J. Ross Hopkins.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bernice Jimerson Jacobs of Carthage; children, Jena Bayless and husband Richard of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Vicki Duckworth and husband Robert of Celeste, Texas, Penny Harbour and husband Roy of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Phil Jimerson and wife Kathy of Grand Prarie, Texas, Johna Peyton of Kingwood, Texas, Judy Hale and husband Charlie of Glen Rose, Texas, Jane Adamson and husband Stan of Springfield, Michigan, LeAnn Williams and husband Rusty of Carthage; sisters-in-law, Eugenia Smith and husband Dr. W. C. of Carthage, and Ouida Walker of Carthage; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers: Cody Harbour, Michael Harbour, Jonathan Peyton, Robin Duckworth, Bret Jimerson and Neal Vaughn.
