Zora Fern Moreland was the only child born to Andy and Lottie Osman Moreland. She was born in Edgewood, Illinois on 20 May 1904. For many years of her life, she grew up in that same area.
At the age of 11, she may have been living in Colorado for a time. Her father had TB and spent some time in a sanitarium in Woodman, Colorado. Later, it appears that the whole family was living in Ft. Collin, Colorado. A letter written to Andy and Lottie was sent to that location.
At one point in her life, she was living in a home in Effingham, Illinois as well.
When she was 17, she married Lester Ora Towles...the father of her 7 children.
