Joel Tufts Brackett was born in Sharon, NH on December 31, 1845 and died at the Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, MA, where he underwent an operation after a short illness. He came to this city to visit his niece by marriage, Mrs. Fred P. Ramsdell. He came to this city in good health but was stricken shortly after his arrival here. He was the son of Josiah Brackett, Jr. and Mary (Piper) Brackett. He lived in Sharon for many years and later made his home in Peterborough. When daughter Myra was born in 1870 at Sharon, NH, Joel's occupation was given as teamster and road agent. When the 1870 census was taken, Joel was living with Mary in Concord, MA, as a farmer and a servant. In 1880 he and Mary were incorrectly indexed as "Brockett".
Joel married Lillian A. Taylor in New Ipswich, NH on 23 June 1897. In 1898, at the birth of his daughter Angeline, Joel was listed as an ice dealer. In 1900, Joel Brackett was indexed incorrectly as Brodult. He and Lillian were living in Peterborough, NH.
