Bernice, daughter of the late Oscar Duemler and wife Anna, nee Peirick, was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Union. She received her education at Immaculate Conception Grade School, and graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1949. Bernice was united in marriage to Frank Helfrich June 11, 1952, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union. The couple made their home in Union. Bernice was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Union, member of the choir, altar sodality and Western Catholic Union.
Bernice is survived by one son, Paul Helfrich and wife Barbara, Villa Ridge; two daughters, Mary Williams and husband Matt, O'Fallon, and Ruth Klenke and husband David, Union; one daughter-in-law, Linda Helfrich Marquardt and husband Tony, Union; seven grandchildren, Ryan Helfrich and wife Betsy, Erin Wildhaber and husband Bryan, Emily Birke and husband Chad, Meghan Metcalf and husband Beau, Brad Williams, Craig Williams and Tiffany Williams; eight great-grandchildren, Rory Helfrich, Addie Helfrich, Tyler Birke, Grant Birke, Clayton Birke, Reese Wildhaber, Avery Wildhaber and Jasmine Williams; one brother, Charlie Duemler, Union; three sisters-in-law, Mary Duemler, Union, Carolyn Von Nida, Florida state, and Hilda Helfrich, Washington; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Helfrich; and two sons, Carl Helfrich and Jerry Helfrich.
A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with Monsignor Matthew Mitas officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception School, Union.
The Helfrich family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
