Dr. Milton Miles Berger, a founding member of the Montauk Artists Association and a resident of East Lake Drive in Montauk and New York City, died at a long-term care center in New York City on February 27, 2010 after a stay in Lenox Hill Hospital. He was ninety-one.

Dr. Berger's sixty-three-year career in psychiatry included a pioneering study of human nonverbal communication and the use of video in psychiatric training and treatment. He maintained a private practice, and was a clinical professor of psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine. He was also a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a trustee and fellow of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Psychiatry, and a life fellow and past president of the American Group Psychotherapy Association.

Born April 4, 1918, he grew up in The Bronx and was a graduate of Michigan State University. Along with art, Mr. Berger loved music, particularly jazz. He was an enthusiastic fisherman who enjoyed heading out onto the water from Montauk aboard a succession of boats that he had all named "My Fantasy."

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Flexner Berger of New York City and Montauk, as well as a son, Richard Snerson of New Hampshire, and a stepdaughter, Lucette Runsdorf of New York City. Two sons predeceased him.

Also surviving Mr. Berger are a sister, Betty Mendlesohn of California, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

A wake was held on March 2, 2010 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in New York City.
Burial followed at Kensico Cemetery in Westchester.
