Woodrow Wilson Smith, of Pflugerville, passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 2, 2010 after a brave battle with respiratory illness.

Mr. Smith was born in Big Springs, Oklahoma on December 12, 1919 to William Joseph and Lula Blanche Mason Smith.

He married his high school sweetheart at Horntown, Oklahoma on July 31, 1940. They were longtime residents of Holdenville, Oklahoma and lived in the Houston and Austin areas for many years.

As a humble World War II veteran, Mr. Smith rarely spoke of his service to our country. He served as an RdM1 – Radarman First Class, patrolling the South Pacific near the Marianas in various battles against the Japanese Navy.

His greatest joy was his family which includes five children, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one brand new great great granddaughter whom he was looking forward to meeting this spring.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Mary Jane. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, two brothers, one sister, two sons; three daughters.

Visitation will be held at Cook Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 3-6pm.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10am on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook Walden/Capital Parks. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 1:45pm.
