Son of John Deas and Elizabeth Allen. He inherited in 1769 the majority of George Seaman's large estate, including Thorogood and Cypress plantations in St James Goose Creek, Walnut Hill plantation on the Combahee River in St Barholomew Parish, and property on Colleton Square in Charleston. He also owned Mount Holly Plantation. He resided on Thorogood.
