Jonathan (sometimes spelled Johnathan) served in Captain Nathaniel Seely's Company of Alarm Men in Colonel Samuel Herrick's Regiment in service to the State of Vermont, on 11th October 1780. (Source: Rolls of the soldiers in the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783, Page 218)
Jonathan moved from Vermont with his family in 1810 to the state of New York. In 1816, they came to Venice and erected a mill on Cold Creek.
Jonathan Hunt became ill and died in 1820. He was buried in Venice Cemetery at that time called "Toad Hole Cemetery" and now called Oak Hill.
The gravestone was erected by the Martha Pitkin Chapter D. A. R. in 1934.
