Rural Carlyle Youth Killed In Tractor Mishap
A rural Carlyle youth was killed Wednesday morning when he fell from the fender of a tractor on a county highway about three miles west of Keyesport.
Dallas Allen, Jr., 17, was pronounced dead on arrival at Utlaut Memorial Hospital. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Allen who live about six miles southwest of Keyesport in Clinton county, he was killed when a wheel of the tractor and a wagon it was pulling ran over him.
Although the Allens live in Clinton county they reportedly farm some land in the Keyesport area and the youth and a companion who was driving the tractor, Kenny Taylor, Carlyle, were on their way to the fields when the accident occurred.
The young Allen was sitting on the left fender of the tractor when he fell, one of the large wheels rolling over his lower abdomen. Death was probably instantaneous.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday 1:30 p.m. at the Immanual United Church of Christ in Carlyle, officiated by ministers. W.J. Schwieckhart and H.K. Scharlemann. Interment in McKendree Chapel cemetery. Visitation is at the Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle until 11:30 a.m. Friday then at the church until the service hour.
Dallas Earl Allen, Jr. was born February 2, 1957 at Breese, son of Dallas E. Sr. and Betty (Wagner) Allen. He had just completed his junior year of high school at Carlyle where he was active in baseball and football and was a member of the Future Farmers of America Club. He was also a member of the United Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents he is survived by sisters, Mrs. Tom (Vicki) Anderson of Hoffman and Mrs. Greg (Cindy) Edmund of Carlyle; grandmothers, Mrs. Lovenia Lyons of Huey and Mrs. Lorrain Wagner of East St. Louis.
