According to his Washington State death record, William's mother was Louisa Wilson.

In the 1900 Census, William was living in Houghton Precinct, King Co., Washington, with his wife Mary J. Vaut. He was a farmer and had been married for 31 years.

"Wm. H. Vaut Dies

William H. Vaut, a resident of the valley for the past sixteen years, died last Sunday at his home in O'Brien of cancer. Deceased was a native of Texas and was a life long member of the Christian Church, Rev. O. T. Law preaching the funeral service from Chittenden's chapel.

Interment was made in the Kent cemetery.

Deceased is survived by the widow Mollie J. Vaut, and one son, Emory D. Vaut, of Juneau, Alaska, and a daughter, Mrs. Fred H. Jordon of Seattle."
