Sister M. Aloysia Schermanson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on January 12, 1978 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Daughter of the late Joel and Henrietta Kullberg Schermanson, she was born on July 27, 1891 in Washington, DC; and given the name Sigrid. She was a member of the class of 1910 of the IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID. She entered into the IHM Congregation on August 23, 1912, received the religious habit on August 2, 1913, and made profession of her vows on July 6, 1915.
Sister Aloysia taught music and primary grades at the following schools: St. Cecilia in Scranton; St. John in Scranton; St. Basil in Dushore; St. Joseph in Spokane, WA; St. Lawrence in Portland, OR; St. Patrick in Olyphant; St. Edward in Twin Falls, ID; and the IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID. In addition to teaching the 5th and 6th grades at St. Lawrence in Portland, OR, she was also the principal from 1934 to 1946. In 1971, she retired to the Marian Convent.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Eric and Joseph; and two sisters, Esther and Agnes.
She is survived by a brother, Henry of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and two sisters, Sister M. Clement, IHM, of Scranton; and Maria of Wallace, Idaho.
Interment will follow the Mass of Christian burial at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
