Kent Lee Parker, 43, of White­land, was released from his burden of ALS on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born June 25, 1966, in Winchester. He was a Whiteland Community High School graduate, Class of 1984. He married Lana Haynes of Greenwood on Jan. 12, 1991, in Gatlinburg, Tenn. They were married for 19 years.

He was a service-connected disabled American veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was employed by Stock Building Supply in Franklin until he became ill.

He was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church.

He was an avid weightlifter and runner.

Kent loved hunting and fishing.

He enjoyed water skiing at Dale Hollow. But his favorite thing in life was spending time with his wife and children.

Survivors include his wife, Lana Parker of Whiteland; two children, Shelbi and Kevin Parker of Whiteland; his parents, Roger and Tina Parker of Bargersville and Nancy and Bob Whitney of Greenwood; a sister, Tammy (Al) Langhals of Ohio; five stepbrothers, Sharkey Sebesky of Bargersville, Chance Whitney of Greenwood, Jason (Cinda) Whitney of Needham, Steve (Pam) Conrad of Albion and Jim (Carol) Conrad of Monticello; two stepsisters, Beth (Scott) Glaser of Alaska and Jane (Tad) Hampton of Dakar, Senegal; a grandmother, Edna Parker of Spartansburg; nine nephews; and 10 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gerald Parker; and his uncle, Edsel Winningham.

The Rev. Larry McAdams will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Memorial Christian Church, 1720 Graham Road. Friends and family may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Franklin Memorial Christian Church Victory Center and from noon until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
