Born in Brownville, Jefferson Co. NY, he was married to Julia Arnold Farrar.
They were parents to Martin, Clinton, Amelia, Isaac, Henry (Hank), Helen, Reed, Adeline, and Melissa (Lizzie).
Came to Laporte between 1870 and 1880.

Fort Collins (Colorado) Courier Nov. 12, 1896:
"Farrar - Monday, November 9, 1896, at the home of his son Reed Farrar, three miles south of Fort Collins, Josiah Farrar, in the 90th year of his age. He was born October 21, 1807 in Jefferson County, New York.
For many years, Josiah Farrar has been a resident of Larimer
County and he was universally known as a man whose life was above reproach. Honest, honorable, upright, he walked only in the paths which were pointed out to him and at last, filled with years, honors and wisdom, he passed to his reward.
The following sons and daughters survive him: Clint Farrar, Martin Farrar, Reed Farrar, Mrs. T.W. Vollintine, Mrs. George Binford and Mrs. Lizzie Hayden. His wife, Julia Arnold Farrar preceded him in death.
The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Reed Farrar and was very largely attended."
