It is thought that Simon Collver served in the Revolutionary War but no military proof of this has been found.

Simon Collver lived in his youth at the family farm on Schooley's Mountain from 1749. It would have been impossible to ignore events of January 1777, as Washington's troops moved from victories at Trenton and Princeton, to join with New Jersey volunteers at Morristown for winter encampment. During the war of Independence, Washington's troops crossed New Jersey four times and encamped at Morristown twice.

It is known that two of Simon's close and respected friends served in the war as chaplains to the patriots. Possibly Simon participated in a similar capacity in support of the patriot cause. Simon was a devout Christian and in 1787 traveled to Smithfield to evangelize and build up Christ's kingdom.
