Bruce Farmer, 92, of Cary, NC, and formerly Hyde Park, NY, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Mr. Farmer is the father of Sue Lindholm and Cathy Verrilli. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Ann Terpening Farmer on July 31, 2005.

Mr. Farmer was born May 15, 1921, in Nash County, NC, to Bennie and Swannie Farmer. During WWII, he served in the United States Army as an MP and was stationed at the Roosevelt Estate in Hyde Park, NY, where he met his future wife. He settled in Hyde Park and was employed by International Harvester Company as a truck salesman.

He was a true gentleman. He was loved by everyone he met, mostly for his wit and his ability to tell a great story. He never knew a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. He will be missed by many, especially his family and some good friends he made while living at Jordan Oaks Retirement Center.

He is survived by: his two daughters, Cathy Verrilli and husband, Colin of Apex, NC, and Sue Lindholm of New Canaan, CT, and son-in-law, Ray Lindholm of Raleigh, NC; four loving grandchildren, Michelle Finez and husband, Robert, Raymond Lindholm, Jr. and wife, Jamey, Danielle Verrilli, and Marianne Verrilli; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Finez, Trey Lindholm, and Reagan Lindholm. Also surviving are his sisters: Ruth Robertson of Laurel Springs, NC, and Rachel Beasley of Pinnacle, NC.

Three brothers, Burnice, Jack and Kenneth Farmer, predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., Jordan Oaks Retirement Center, 10820 Penny Road, Cary, NC. Burial will be private.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the caring staff at Phoenix Assisted Care in Cary who looked after him during the last few months of his life.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, www.diabetes.org or to Horse and Buddy, P.O. Box 675, Apex, NC 27502, www.horseandbuddy.org, would be appreciated.
