Catherine (Kate) Thornton was the daughter of James Innes and Anne Amelia Smith Thornton. She married her first cousin Captain Harry Innes Thornton. She died in Nevada in childbirth but was re-interred at Thornhill in 1906 with her infant daughter, Harry Catherine, and another infant daughter. Thornhill was her childhood home.
