Chicago Tribune (IL) - November 25, 1915

Every Thanksgiving eve for twenty years "Blind Alec" -- Alexander Cameron Davis -- a Negro character of old Chinatown, climbed the stairs to the Fong Choo restaurant, 511 South Clark street, and was given a roasted turkey. Last night he failed to appear. A Chinaman hurried to the South Clark street station and asked if any one knew where Alec was. He was told that Alec had been dead for two weeks.

The news spread through Chinatown. Little else than the passing of "Blind Alec" was talked about. Had they known in time Alec would have been given a "grand funeral." As it was he was buried in the Potters' field .

"Blind Alec" made his living by splitting up boxes he found and selling kindling. He was always a great favorite with the Chinese, who trusted him implicitly.
