Personal History of Wendell Meacham: On August 1st, 1908, was born to the family of Fayette Meacham and Eliza Adair Meacham, his wife, a male child, which was the sixth child of the family. I was born in Tropic, Utah, which is a little town in the bottom of Bryce Canyon. The mountains and valley surrounding this small community are a very inspiring sight.
In 1909, my Father and Mother and family moved to Widtsoe, a Mormon settlement 22 miles north of Bryce Canyon to homestead 16 acres of land. My experience there for 12 years were varied and challenging, moving to Spanish Fork, then Garfield, then finally to Salt Lake City in February 1923, were trials and experiences that kept our family together. We as a family are very close and have great love one for another. Moving to 3118 So. West Temple in 1923, we went into the store and coal business. Also a 30 cow dairy business as well. Since moving to Salt Lake City, I have been in the meat business.
My life really began when I was married September 1st, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple to Gwen Davies, a returned missionary from the Central States. We are both from strong dedicated people of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Our married life has had many challenges earning a living, trying to do the Lord's work as well has been a great experience. We both have been active in the Church, Gwen in the Ward and Stake Relief Society Presidency for 10 years. after that experience she has taught all lessons on a Ward and Stake level, I have served as a Bishop's Counselor for 6 1/2 years and 4 1/2 years as a Bishop.
After being married for 12 years with no children, Gwen felt that we should adopt a baby. After applying a few months later, we received a beautiful baby girl. We named her Janet. within the period of four years we had four babies all come into our home at 3 days old. At one time we had 3 babies in three-cornered pants, also all three on bottles. What a great joy these children brought into our home. Now our children are all grown up and married and we have seven lovely grandchildren.
Many choice experiences have been ours, our life has been full. The Lord has been good to us, all that we do we give the honor to Him.
To all my kin whoever might read this brief message of my life, I leave my Testimony of the sanctity and beauty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His great Church, that it shall ring true in your heart and vibrate your very soul that you shall always serve Him, I sincerely pray. Wendell Meacham
