DEATH OF P. L. PERSONS -
Mr. P. L. Persons died at his home in this city, Sunday evening, Nov. 18th, from the effects of a paralytic stroke received during this past summer. His age was 79 years.
The funeral was held at his late residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Ross Matthews, pastor of the Baptist church, )of which church Mr. Persons was a member), officiating in presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives. Placed on the casket by thoughtful friends, were a sheaf of ripened wheat, a wreath of white roses and a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. The pall bearers were Messrs., J.M. Frank, Gilbert Metcalf, M. Crissey and R. A. Chapman.
Deceased had been in feeble health for a few years past, but last summer suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he did not fully rally, and continued to decline, enduring great suffering patiently until the summons came to release him from pain. Deceased was an earnest Christian, a member of the Baptist church, and a faithful attendant on the public and social services. He found great comfort in his sickness in Christian counsel and in trusting in the promises and the grace that was all sufficient under the most trying circumstances, and his bereaved family and friends mourn not for him as those who mourn without home, but look forward to a reunion in the "Sweet Bye and Bye" that shal never end.
Deceased leaves a widow and two children, - Edwin P. Persons, and Mrs. Myra Howe, both residents of this city, also a number of grand-children and other relatives. [Published in "The Republican," Marengo, Illinois, Friday, November 23rd, 1894, MDP, Page 8.]
