Margaret Chavez Ulibarri, age 84, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed away peacefully at home with her children by her side on Thursday, Feb. 18.
She truly loved the Lord, and was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for 25 years at the 10 a.m. Mass.
Margaret worked at Roy's Café as a teenager, and later worked with Dr. Radcliffe for five years. She was also a substitute teacher and special education aide for the Belen Schools.
Margaret was a talented seamstress and made many of her children's clothes when they were young, including specialty outfits for all occasions. She loved shopping at Coronado Mall and antique shops. Margaret loved going to the Belen Senior Center to socialize with friends, where she was a member of the Senior Citizen Choir "Desert Stars." Margaret liked eating at Rutilio's.
What brought her the most joy were family functions with her six children. Margaret was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by all. "We love you Mom, not a day will pass that we won't be thinking of you."
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Preme Ulibarri; son, Robert Ulibarri; granddaughter, Suzanne Ulibarri; grandmother (who raised her), Herachia Barela Chavez; parents, Domingo and Tomasita Avila Chavez; three brothers, Gillie, Barney and Domingo Chavez, Jr.; two sisters, Natty Gurule and Domie Chavez Thornton and her loving aunt, Rita Chavez, who passed away when she was 9 years old and missed so much. Margaret is survived by her five loving children; two sons, David Ulibarri and wife, Sharon, of Albuquerque, and Charles Ulibarri and wife, Joy, of Belen; three daughters, Kathy Vaupel and husband, Ivan, of Albuquerque, Dolores Silva and husband, Mike, of Belen, and Regina Chambers and husband, Jim, of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dr. Laura Ulibarri of Avalon, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and three sisters, Louisa Vigil of Belen, Stella Joggery of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Sally Chavez Minnear of Topeka, Kan. She is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Richard Madden and nurse, Lana Stanley of Presbyterian Home Healthcare for their constant care and support.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, Feb. 24, beginning with a viewing at 11 a.m., a rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. and a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
