Obituary.--Mrs. Penlope Averitt was born in Fayette county, Ohio, November 15th, 1813. She was the daughter of Isaac Templin, one of the early settlers of that state and a devoted member of the Presbyterian church. She was married at the age of eighteen to William Hawk, with whom she emigrated to Macon county when Decatur was a village, and when no railroad was in the county, settling in Niantic township. Death deprived her of her husband in 1848, and in 1852 she was married to Elder Nathan G. Averitt, of the Christian church, with whom she lived till March 6, 1867, when she was again left a widow.
In 1846 under the ministration of Elder Watt. Bowles, of the Christian church, she became a member of that denomination, and has remained a zealous member ever since, embracing a period of forty years.
Her death occurred in Niantic, Illinois, September 26, 1886 at the age of seventy-three years. The funeral services were held in the Christian church at Niantic, September 27, Rev. A. C. Foster officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Long Point cemetery.
Mrs. Averitt has resided in Niantic for eighteen years where she was known by every one. She leaves three sons and one daughter, residents of the township, and a daughter living in Iowa, to mourn her death.
