Novotney, Norbert James (Gus) passed away peacefully on January 28,2010. Born in Brainerd, Minnesota,
on August 21, 1921 to Peter and Selma Lucy Novotney. He married Antoinette L. VanNispen of Duluth,
Minnesota on February 19, 1946. Gus is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years; their two daughters; Sandra
Jean Patterson, (Andrew), grandson James and daughter Jenifer Gail Parker, (Douglas) and grandchildren
Kyle, Kelly and many much loved nieces ana nephews.

After graduating from the Navy Midshipman School at Columbia University in 1942, he was shipped out to the
"South Pacific Theatre", (Philippines, Dutch East Indies, Borneo, Australia, New Guinea and the Solomon
Islands). He served our country in WWII as a Lieutenant and captained an APC 12 Patrol Craft. Upon his
return to the U.S. he was re-assigned .as the Executive Officer of the USS Eldridge, a destroyer escort.

Gus had a very distinguished career with many accomplishments. He retired from the Wackenhut Corporation
in 1988 as a Senior Vice President after 20 years of service. Throughout the course of his career, Gus was a
Special Agent with the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover; Director of Marketing for the Nuclear Division of the Curtiss-
Wright Corporation, and High School Industrial Arts teacher and Athletic Coach.

He was the recipient of many honors in High School and College. Because of his natural abilities and love of
sports he was named the Outstanding Athlete of the Year upon graduation in both high school and college as well as a member of the National Honor Society. He is listed in Who's Who in Colleges and Universities in
America, 1947. Gus graduated from the University of Minnesota at Duluth with a Bachelor's Degree. In
retirement, he donated time to many worthy causes including St. Mary's Soup Kitcnen. the.St.Louis.Catholic church festival for the poor and at major Golf Tournaments at the Doral Golf Resort.

Gus' lifelong commitment and devotion to his family was shown spending summers on Lake Michigan at the
family beach home he and his wife built together and vacationed at with their daughters since 1968. With his
grandchildren, it became even more of a desired place as he spent several weeks of quality time each year
with them mentoring in the Charlevoix Junior Golf League, walking in the woods, picking cherries and enjoying
bon-fires on the beach.

He was a friend of many and will be remembered for the lives he touched, friendships he made and all the
memories he helped create. Interment will be at the Old Antrim City Cemetery in Antrim, Michigan following a
graveside service this summer. The date not yet determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in
Gus' memory to: The Front Porch, Ellsworth, Michigan (www.frontporchellsworth.org); Parkinson's
(www.parkinson.org); St. Louis Catholic Church (stlouismiami.org) or a favorite charity.
