NORTHPORT - Christopher G. Swindle, 33, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama.
Born on May 7, 1976, in Adrian, Michigan, he was the son of George and Dawn (Wright) Swindle. He was a 1994 graduate of Fremont High School. He was an Indiana Academic All-Star. He earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, ID. He did computer related work for Dawn Food Products in Jackson, MI., SEP in Indianapolis, ID., and Jackson Community College in Jackson, MI. He did volunteer work at the Lenawee County Historical Society during that time.
After working with computers, he found that his true calling was the study of history. He returned to school and earned a masters in history from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. While attending school, he was employed by the University as a teaching assistant and most recently as editor of The Southern Historian history journal.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marie Wright and grandfather, Albert Swindle, Sr.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian, MI., with interment of cremains taking place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian, MI., at a later date. Pastor Norm Fuller was the officiating minister.
Survivors include his parents - Kevin and Dawn Owsley, Fremont, ID., and George Swindle and Mary Ann Ruesink, Battle Creek, MI.; brother - Bryan Owsley; grandmother - Jewel Rye Swindle, Adrian, MI.; and grandfather - Clyde Wright, Adrian, MI.
Anderson Funeral Home of Adrian, MI., directed the services.
