Daniel Pool Nash was the eldest son of Rev. Daniel Nash and Olive Pool Nash. In his youth he became an ordained Presbyterian minister, but never served as a pastor. His ministry was limited to helping with evangelistic meetings during the Second Great Awakening, under Charles G. Finney, but once he helped found the Oneida Community, in Madison County, New York this all stopped. He married Sophia Church, daughter of Uriah Church and had several children, including a son named Edwin Nash, who served in the Civil War.
