ADAMS, George Chambers "Buster", 75, of Cartersville, died the evening of January 27, 2008, at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. He was born March 7, 1932 in Cumberland County, Va. to William Franklin and Jessie Walton Adams. Buster was the two-time marble shooting champion of Lewis School in Raleigh, N.C. in 1946 and 1947. At the age of 18, he entered the U.S. Air Force on January 16, 1950 in Raleigh, N.C., working in Communications and Cryptography. His overseas assignments included French Morocco, Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam and Melville Mountain, Labrador. He served in the Korean Conflict and in the Vietnam War. He was honored twice with the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and retired after over 26 years of service. He was the hub of communication between the different branches of the Adams/Walton families. His frequent phone calls kept the information flowing from California to Mississippi to Virginia and beyond. He loved his truck, his hats, and his Hardee's biscuits, but most especially, his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Suk Cha; his brothers, Walton Franklin, John Samuel, Clyde Ottway, and Thomas Melvin Adams; and his sister, Martha Leach Keller. He is survived by his dear, faithful friend, Linda Williams of Biloxi, Miss.; his daughter, Dawn Kim Adams and her husband, Alex Vinson, of Alameda, Calif.; his son, William Franklin Adams and his wife, Jennifer Facchine, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; brother William Harvey Adams of Raleigh, N.C.; his sister, Jessie Joyce Adams Beasley of Apex, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Diane Adams and William George Adams. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, Va. A funeral with military honors will be held at Thomas Chapel, United Methodist Church, 1313 Cartersville Rd., Cartersville, Va., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 2. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Thomas Chapel Cemetery Fund, 1313 Cartersville Rd., Cartersville, Va. 23027, the Cartersville Rescue Squad, 1667 Cartersville Rd., Cartersville, Va. 23027 or a charity of your choice.
