War of 1812
Born in Georgia, a son of Jacob Seagraves. Went to Maury Co, Tenn. when a young man; came to southern Illinois in spring of 1818, and to Bond county in 1829. Veteran of War of 1812. Buried in Lot # 34. Purchased 80 acres from USA on March 21, 1831, West half of NW1/4 of Sec. 11, T5N-R2W. He had his log cabin in the NW corner of this 80 acres. The Seagraves School was built in this immediate area, NW of his home. Bennett's father, Jacob, was of Scotch descent, and a Revolutionary War Soldier, and died in Clinton county June 7, 1835. He was supposed to have been buried somewhere on the Clinton-Bond line. Jacob's children by his first wife were: Vincent, Bennett, Daniel, Isaac, Sara; by his second wife were: Jacob, John, Henry Jackson, Elizabeth Jane (called Betsy), Polly, Malinda.

*Additional:Enlisted War of 1812 in Tennessee Militia. Bennett's father Jacob Seagraves had a total of twelve children by two wives including my ancestor, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Seagraves b. 1815 (Eliz. Hanes) the father of my Gr. Grandmother Mathilda Seagraves-Harper.
