Kenneth James Crow was a crewman on a Navy PBM-5 bomber floatplane stationed at Tawi Tawi in the Philippines. Kenny was a gunner's mate and manned one of the 50 cal. machine guns on the aircraft during battle. His plane was forced down on June 4, 1945, after receiving fire from a Japanese warship and made an emergency landing on the west coast of Celebes, now known as Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The crew went ashore and the following day engaged the Japanese land forces in an all-day battle. The following day Kenny was taken prisoner along with his skipper, the co-pilot and two other enlisted men in the crew. The co-pilot died a few days later. The remainder were held captive for two months then beheaded by their Japanese captors just ten days before the end of the war.

After the war, Kenny's body was returned to the United States and buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana

Kenny graduated from Ossian High School where he participated in softball and performed in class plays and operettas.

He was awarded the Silver Star, the Air Medal, and the Purple Heart among other combat medals.
