Jerry L. Garber, 69, North Manchester, died at 8:19 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2006, at the Indiana Bone Marrow Transplant Center at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove,

He was born in Wabash County on Aug. 12, 1936, to Blaine F. and Effie (Amberg) Garber. He married Barbara "Bickey" Myers in Cleveland on Nov, 29, 1958, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Scott (Lorry) Garber, Claypool; two daughters, Julie (Kevin) McKay, Columbia City, and Melissa (Kevin) Shorter, North Manchester; a brother, Earl L. (Dee) Garber, Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. John (Wanda) Trout, Ft. Pierce, Fla., Mrs. Larry (Laverne) Montel, Warsaw, and Linda Sue Garber, Wabash; five grandchildren, Rachel (Tony) Kelman, South Bend, Tasha Garber, Fort Wayne, Stephanie Smith, Columbia City, Emily and Zachary Shorter, North Manchester; eight stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

Mr. Garber was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 286, North Manchester. He was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren and served a chairman of the trustees, was a member of the church board and a lifetime deacon.

He attended Laketon High School. He was much loved by his family and friends, and his faithful friends and traveling companion, Tyler.

He was a farmer, owner of semi-trucks and hauled livestock for 20 years. He served as maintenance director at Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, for 19 years, and he delivered camper trailers until the time of his illness.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren with Pastor Kelly Beutler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
