Alice Ellestad, age 96 of Glenwood, died Wednesday February 22, 2006 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Chrissis officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Alice Corrine Ellestad, the daughter of John and Mamie McVay, was born September 18, 1909 in Whittemore, Iowa. When she was very young, she lived with the Shipley Family who owned a hotel in Belmont, Iowa. She attended grade school and helped out with chores at the hotel and later graduated from Belmont High School in 1927. Alice attended nurses training in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On May 28, 1947, she was married to Robert Ellestad in Mabel, Minnesota. They lived in Mabel for several years before moving to Winona, Rochester and in 1961 they moved to Cresco, Iowa. During those years, Alice was involved in some private nursing care. They moved to Glenwood in 1968 where Alice was
an active member of the ladies aid at the Glenwood Lutheran Church and also the Legion Auxiliary. She was also involved in local birthday clubs, and served by volunteering her time at the nursing home. She enjoyed reading, dancing and boating with Robert. For
several years, they spent the winter months in Texas and enjoyed visiting Robert's brother in California.

Alice is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert of Glenwood; sister, Florence Creal of Algoma, Iowa; brother, George McVay of Algona, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dean Ellestad of Roseville, California and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 sisters, Elsie Miller and Nellie Ellestad.
