Hannah Hamann Schroeder Paltz was born in Omaha, Nebraska, one of six children of Mr. and Mrs. Hamann who operated the Leavenworth Street Laundry on the south side of Leavenworth street between 28th and 29th streets. Her three brothers were named George, Fredrick and Henry. Her sisters were Agatha and Matilda. Hannah Hamann married Fred Schroeder, who was a building contractor in Omaha and they had three children: Wilmer, Elizabeth and Gwendolyn. Their father, Fred Schroeder, was the 7th Ward City Councilman in Omaha and while serving in that office he was a candidate in the 1912 city election for the office of Commissioner. Fred Schroeder died on July 15, 1914, after being shot by an assassin as he was walking home in the early evening of that night. Approximately four years after the death of Fred Schroeder Hannah Schroeder married Peter J. Paltz. They had four children together. Two boys, Robert and Peter Jr., and two girls; Charlotte and Ruth. Hannah died in St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha from pneumonia while giving birth to a fifth child of Peter J. Paltz. The child also died.
