He passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009. Mr. Hammer was a resident of Mount Prospect for 68 years, living in the same house since his marriage and where he raised his family. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served as an officer of the church for 50 years. Fred was the beloved husband of Vera for 68 years; loving father of Fred A. (Valerie), Barbara (Ed) Buettner, Kathryn (Michael) Byrne, Donald (Sandra) and James; dear grandfather of Fred, Douglas, Craig, Butch, Kimberly, Nancy, Laura, Marcie, Meghan, Kyle, Owen and Natalie; great-grandfather of Emilee, Kaycee, Ryan, Aaron, McKenzee, Noah, Bailey, Hannah, Sarah, Rebekah, Logan, Kayla, Jayden, Collin, Ethan, Shaun and Alissa; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Worship for Shut Ins or the Lutheran Hour, appreciated. Arrangements were made by Cremation Society of Illinois, 847-577-6505.
