Served in the U.S. Army against Mexico for six months before having his trigger finger shot off in skirmish with Mexican Army. Was discharged and then reactivated for WW-I and served with the 64th Sqd, Spruce Div near Hoquiam, WA during WW-I. Married in 1919 to Maria Helena Imhoff (Mary Helen Imhoff) shortly after she recovered from the Influenza Epidemic of 1918. They later travelled Westward using a horse and wagon to move all over the Western States with his wife and growing family. Lived in Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, and finally settled in the Wynoochee Valley NW of Montesano,WA. He was Poet, landscaper, carpenter, and farmer.
