Joseph B. Backert Jr., a route salesman for Nick Warisse Baking Company, died at 11:26 a.m. Saturday while taken to St. Joseph Infirmary from his home, 2516 Meadow Drive. Backert, 54, suffered a heart attack. Deputy Coroner William S. Anderson said. Survivors include his wife the former Mary Uebelhoer, a daughter, Mrs. Phillip Hines; a son, Bernard "Bud" Backert; his father, Joseph B. Backert Sr., a brother, Thomas J. Backert, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
