Lucinda BETTERTON, daughter of Wm. G. and Mercy BETTERTON, born June 17, 1831, in Somerset Co., Pa., and came to Iowa with her parents in June, 1837. Married J. B. McCLAIN July 25, 1851, her husband taking his young bride to the home farm, where she lived as wife and widow until her death on Sat., Aug. 16, 1924, age 93-1-29.
Nine children, 3 preceded her to the great beyond, Edwin Augustus, Ann Eliza and Emmet Wilbur McCLAIN. Remaining are: Clara (Mrs. John) FRY; Edna (Mrs. John) POLLOCK; Joseph McCLAIN; Mrs. Logan (Fannie) WILLIAMS; Sarah McCLAIN, and Mary (Mrs. Emery) PEARSON, all of Libertyville; 20 grandchildren; 43 greatgrandchildren and 7 greatgreatgrandchildren. Mother McCLAIN was the sixth child of a family of 12, all having preceded her in death except one sister, Mrs. Hattie NELSON of Circeville, Kan..... Interment in Fell Cemetery."
