"Mrs. Kate Cavness
Funeral services for Mrs. Kate Buchanan Cavness, 75, mother of Dr. R.M. Cavness, president of the University of Corpus Christi, were conducted today at 10 a.m. at Morgan Avenue Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were the Reverends J. Roy Clark of the Morgan Avenue Baptist Church, Carl E. Hereford of the First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, and Kermit Mclugin, of the First Baptist Church in Robstown.
Burial was to be at San Marcos at 4:30 p.m. today with Dr. William McNeil officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Cavness. They were Allan Esse, Tom E. Knighton, William H. Cavness, Donald W. Cavness, Joe R. Cavness and Lattimore Cavness.
Mrs. Cavness, 1431 Twelfth, died in a local hospital yesterday at 5:20 a.m. following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and the Morgan Avenue Baptist Church. She and her husband, the late W. M. Cavness, were school teachers.
Survivors include, besides Dr. Cavness, one other son, Texas State Auditor C. H. Cavness of Austin; two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Esse of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Tom H. Knighton of Canyon; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shell of Lynchburg, Va. and Mrs. E. F. Smith of Los Angeles.
Cage-Mills Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements."
