James Louis Comerford, Jr., age 77, husband of the late Eileen (O'Dwyer) Comerford of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. James, son of James L. and Agnes (McGee) Comerford, was born in New York City on June 24, 1932. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to being a Union Local 3 electrician for the I.B.E.W, James owned and operated King-Comerford Automotive and worked as a machinist for the Brooklyn Shipyard. He served on the Newtown Police Department as an Auxiliary and Special Officer from 1981 until 2010. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernian, JFK Division. He is survived by his five children, James L. Comerford lll, Eileen Budrewicz, Michael Comerford, Regina Lovely, Noreen Guman, their spouses, and eleven grandchildren. James was predeceased by his son, Kevin Comerford. He is also survived by two of his four siblings, John and Dan Comerford, their wives and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of ChristianBurial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10 am. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown Sunday from 2 to 6 pm. Contributions may be made to the American CancerSocietyhttp://www.cancer.org.
