EDWARD J. SPETTEL

Death claimed Edward J. Spettel after a lingering illness, on Saturday morning at 9:15 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spettel, with whom he had been residing. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz funeral home, with Rev. E. J. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were Raymond Klauck, Peter Richart, Walter Horneck, Edward Reineck, Emil Raquet and John Rabe.Mr. Spettel was born at Franklin, Sheboygan county, on Oct. 19, 1864, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel. The family moved to the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, where Mr. Spettel married Miss Minnie Reimers in 1890. After residing on the Schleswig farm for some time the couple moved to Sheboygan, where they resided for a few years. His wife preceded him many years ago. During the past 28 years he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Spettel.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Lillian) Schneider of Milwaukee; two sons, Harry of this city, and Harvey of Milwaukee; a sister, Miss Mary Spettel of Willmette, Ill., and three brohters, Henry and John of Kiel, and Jacob of the town of Eaton. Four sisters preceded him in death. - 1949

Edward John (Oct. 19, 1864-March 12, 1949 –husband of Minnie Reimers [married Oct. 19, 1890 in the Town of Schleswig] –son of Jacob Spettel and Elizabeth Aulbach –born in Sheboygan County –on Aug. 29, 1890, Edward purchased from his widowed mother the 100-acre farm centered at 22109 Schreiber Road in Section 9, Town of Schleswig –Edward owned this fam until selling on Feb. 15, 1893 to Henry Hartman –after this sale, Edward and Minnie moved to the City of Sheboygan –on July 18, 1902, Edward purchased the 80-acre Gottfried Spann farm at 21502 Schreiber Road in Section 9, Town of Schleswig –in 1905, Edward's wife Minnie was declared insane and was moved to an insane asylum –after Minnie left in 1905, Edward lived with his son Harry Spettel and his wife Elsie Hansen in Kiel, which is where he lived the remainder of his life –although Edward left the farm at 21502 Schreiber Road in 1905, he did not sell this farm until Jan. 20, 1921 –died from "arteriosclerotic heart disease, 2 years –myocardial degeneration –auricular fibrillation") –buried at the Rockville Cemetery, Town of Schleswig [death record Manitowoc 42-299]
