He was the son of Charles Lee Everhart and Fannie Lopp Everhart. He spent his free time working on his farm, which is still enjoyed today by his family. He also worked at Thomasville Furniture Co. and Lexington Furniture Industries. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. He was married to Nona Elizabeth Kennedy, who preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2000. They had one daughter. Also preceding him in death were brothers Grady Everhart, Harvey Everhart, John Everhart and William A. Everhart and sisters Gertrude Crotts, Viola Hedrick and Sula Hanner.
