Carl E. Baumgardner, 77, formerly of 1905 Aspen Drive, Elizabethton, died Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton, TN following an extended illness. Mr. Baumgardner was a native of Carter County and the son of the late B.J. and Easter Hicks Baumgardner. Mr. Baumgardner was self-employed in the construction industry. He was a member of East Side Christian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Ira Lena Campbell Baumgardner, Elizabethton; two daughters, Sandy Mallory, Mt. Juliet, and Carole Hazelwood, Hampton; a sister, Manilla Oliver, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Jeanne Mallory, Nashville; and a grandson, Chris Hazelwood, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, 211 North Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, (423)543-4917, is in charge of arrangements.

9, 2003, was conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were selected from family and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
