Miss Sara Jones, beloved retired teacher, died unexpectedly Friday, January 3 as she was thought recovering from flu.

She taught in the Wellington Schools by choice, although she could have been in much larger systems, until her retirement 11 years ago.

A member of one of Wellington's leading pioneer families, she came here as a small child when her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Jones, from Honey Grove, where she was born January 25, 1892.

Miss Jones was graduated from Wellington High School about 1912, and attended West Texas State University, than a Normal School, until she received her teachers certificate. Her first school was in Calhoun County, on the gulf coast. She came home about 1915 and taught in the Wellington schools for several years, then went to Wichita Falls for a long tenure. She returned to teach in Wellington Elementary School during World War II, and with he great talent for imparting knowledge to children, touched the lives of hundreds of boys and girls who attended the Elementary School.

She also studied at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Southwest Texas State College at San Marcos. She did work for short periods at several other colleges and universities to keep abreast with the fast-developing teaching profession.

She was president of the Excelsior Study Club and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Wellington Book Club, City Federation, 1924 Study Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for teachers.

She also was a member of the Methodist Church.

Since her retirement, Miss Jones had continued to study in fields that interested her.

Survivors are four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Ed Myers of Tucson, AZ; Mrs. Inez Crockett of Phoenix, AZ; Mrs. Annie Beckendorff of Katy; Mrs. E. A. Singley, Dr. Charles B. Jones and Bob Jones of Wellington. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were a sister and two brothers, Miss Florence Jones, Joe Jones and John Jones.
