The Wellington Leader March 30, 1939

Mrs. W. L. Johnson of Vivian, La., who came to this section 50 years ago and spent her girlhood here, was buried Saturday afternoon, March 25, in Wellington. Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Mr. and. Mrs. William Travis Campbell, a sister of Mrs. W. D. Durfey of Loco, and of the late Walter Campbell of Wellington. Mrs. Johnson, nee Marguerite Campbell, was born November 20, 1883, at Meridian, Texas, and at the time of her death she was 55 years, 4 months and 3 days of age. In 1889, she moved with her parents to this area, settling near Loco, where they resided for a number of years. Mr. Campbell was one of the outstanding builders of that section of Childress County. Mrs. Johnson left here about 1906.

During her girlhood, Mrs. Johnson made many friends, who loved her, and valued her friendship. She was a member of the Methodist Church, having joined in 1901. She is survived by her husband, W. L. Johnson of Vivian, La., and seven sisters, Mrs. J. G. Smith of Gatesville, Mrs. N. A. Olive of Abilene, Mrs. A. D. Leslie of Childress, Mrs. C. D. McDowell of Clarendon, Mrs. John Dunn of Racine, Wis., Mrs. W. D. Durfey of Loco and Mrs. Annie Miller of Plains.
