Susan Adeline Parks Grantham was the daughter of John Gray Parks and Sarah Elizabeth Head Morris. She grew up in Union County, Georgia. There she met and married Jesse Richardson Grantham on 11 May 1851. This couple had a large family and included at least the following children: Monroe Mathias (1852-1907); Hillard Cisero (1854-1939); Benjamin Franklin (1857-1931); Rufus Marion (1859-1944); Ira Foster "Bud" (1861-1935); Alice E. (1865-1866); Emma Leticia (1867-1949); Ada Elizabeth (1871-1944); and Mary Etta (1876-1964). The family home was burned to the ground by Sherman's march through Georgia during the end of the Civil War. The family came west - spent time in Kansas - and finally settled in Texas.
