W. L. (Bill) Ewing, 82, a retired barber who returned to Collingsworth County four years ago and made his home at Wellington, died in St. Joseph's Hospital at 12:04 p.m. Wednesday, June 7. He had been ill about a month.
Mr. Ewing came to Quail from Comanche County in 1929 and operated a barber shop there until 1942 when he moved to Amarillo. He continued his work as a barber until he returned here in 1963.
During the time he was at Quail, Mr. Ewing was active in the affairs of the community at a time when it was the trading center of much of the west part of the county.
He had been a member of the Methodist Church since early in life.
Willie Lee Ewing was born in Nacogdoches County October 1, 1884. He was married to Miss Gussie Colley on August 1, 1911, at Proctor. She preceded him in death July 2, 1963.
Mr. Ewing is survived by two sons and two daughters: Emory L. Ewing of Phillips, Chester R. Ewing of Pasadena, Mrs. Annie Laura Knox of Hereford, and Mrs. Trusten Thomas of Wellington.
Other survivors are two brothers and three sisters: Bland Ewing of Proctor, John A. Ewing, Mrs. Lula Kelley and Mrs. Carrie James of Hurst, and Mrs. Pat Brown of Ranger.
There are seven grandchildren.
