Funeral services for John Selby Aaron, 73, were held Tuesday afternoon, January 16 at 2 o'clock from the First Methodist Church in Wellington.
Rev. Aaron came to this county in 1905 and was well known over the entire county and is passing is mourned by a host of friends. He was a Methodist preacher in this section for 20 years and has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 28 years.
He was born in Red River county in 1861 and in 1880 married Sophronia Hughes. Eight children were born to this union. They were C.M. Aaron, John Aaron, B. Aaron and Mrs. G. T. Jones, all of Collingsworth county; Lydabel Aaron of Iowa park; Juliette Aaron of Borger; Mrs. A. B. Corder of San Antonio. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his services as a pastor, Rev. Aaron was also a farmer and stock raiser. He was interested in the affairs of the county and of the community and was active in sponsoring movements for the welfare of the residents of this section.
He was recognized as one of the old timers of this county, having lived here for the past 29 years with the exception of a short period when he was forced to visit other points because of ill health. His death was mourned not only by his neighbors and close friends buy by many of the early settlers as well, who remembered this county and town as an entirely different place from the present day appearance. As one of the early residents of this section, Rev. Aaron faced many hardships--all of which were called by many persons of the county at his passing.
