Funeral rites will be held today for Walter Berryman at the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Dr. G. A. Odgers, Methodist church pastor, and Rev. Warren Dirks, pastor of the Lovell and Deaver Methodist churches, will officiate, with services directed by the Easton funeral home. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Walter Berryman, 67, passed away at his home in Powell last Saturday. His death was attributed to a heart ailment. He had retired from active farming in June of 1952, and he and Mrs. Berryman had moved to their present residence at 338 E. Madison street in Powell.
Walter Berryman was born on August 9, 1885, at Cozad, Nebraska, son of William and Dicy Berryman. He was married to Miss Lena E. Durland of Cozad on September 16, 1908, and the young couple made Cozad their home for nearly five years while Mr. Berryman operated a livery stable in that community.
They came to Powell in January, 1913, and together operated a restaurant in Powell for five years. They moved to their homestead near Deaver in 1918. He worked on drag-line operations in connection with the construction and maintenance operations of irrigation ditches with Russell and Ted Moore, and Golden Snell of Cowley, in addition to his farming operations.
The children of the Berryman family grew up at Deaver and attended high school there. The family held membership in the First Methodist church of Deaver. Mr. and Mrs. Berryman had transferred their membership from the Powell Methodist church, where they were of the original members of the Powell Methodist church which was established in 1915. Mr. Berryman was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Survivors include his widow, who plans to continue living in their Powell residence; two daughters, Mrs. George Ellis of Kane, Wyoming and Mrs. John Kessel of Powell; one son, Ivan Berryman of Powell. The deceased and Mrs. Berryman have six granddaughters and one grandson. There are three brothers and a sister who survive the deceased, Frank of Cozad, Nebraska, Charles of Arthur, Nebraska, Edgar of Powell, and Mrs. James Miller of Powell.
