GERTRUDE M. SHEFFIELD
A funeral for Gertrude M. Sheffield, 89, Ottawa, who died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1993 at Crestview Nursing Home, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dengel and Son Mortuary with the Revs. William R. Weber and Phillip Rhoades officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
Born Aug. 5, 1903 near Baldwin City, she was the daughter of James M. and Iva Mae (Mulvany) Baker. She married Dillard H. Sheffield July 16, 1941 at Lawrence. He died Aug. 30, 1963.
She lived most of her life in Ottawa, except for a short time in Pacific Junction, Iowa.
She was a homemaker and child care provider. She was employed for 10 years as a seamstress at H.D. Lee and then 10 years at Mode O Day. She retired in 1973.
During World War II, she worked at Hercules Ammunition Plant, DeSoto.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union.
