Inventor of the oven thermometer
In 1880 was living in Dover, Stratford Cty NH with the Levi Cooper family. He is listed as a boarder.
In 1900 he is living in Plymouth, Litchfield Cty, CT
single aged 70.

excerpts from The Hartford Courant Oct 19 1907:
David G Cooper, traveler, inventor and Terryville's most benevolent citizen died at and early hour this morning. He had been ill with pneumonia.
He left school at age 15 and learned the trade of machinist.
When 18 he went to Cuba and spent about 9 years and then was bound for Chile where he secured employment at the silver mines.
He also visited the Sandwich Islands and returned to Dover in 1871.
Contemplating at a kitchen table, he conceived of the idea of constructing a thermometer.
In Pequabuck he saw the Gleason and Allen Co who manufactured hardware. They made the first 500 thermometers.
He is survived by nieces - Mrs Lumis of New York; Miss Fannie Hair of West Boylston MA; and by cousins James Hodgdon and Miss Grace Hodgdon of Middlebury, MA and Miss Agnes Hodgdon of Terryville. A brother died last year.
