Commissioned a Captain in the Confederate Army on the 25th day of July 1864...was taken prisoner on the 25th day of February 1865, and confined in Fortress Monroe, Va in Casement no. 6. Was paroled 10 May 1865.
A prominent architect in Charleston after the War, he designed St Matthew's German Lutheran Church in Charleston and Stella Maris Church on Sullivan's Island; he is given credit for designing the old Charleston Post Office.

Gravesite Details

Originally buried in the Devereux Chapel, now demolished. There is a sarcophagus with his name on it in the middle of the circle where the Chapel once stood, but it is uncertain whether he is interred there.
