Sarah Viola Higgins, 90, died Dec. 2 at Cedar Village in Ness City. Born Feb. 13, 1918, in Banner, she was the daughter of John and Mary Sparks Tilton. On July 3, 1937, she married Lawrence J. Higgins at WaKeeney. He died on June 10, 1966. They were dairy and wheat farmers.
Survivors include one son, James Higgins, Ness City; five daughters, Mildred "Milly" Rumpel, Ontario, Ore., Evea Rumpel, WaKeeney, Ida Meyeres, Bazine, Kathy Davis and Charity Farley; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Ernest, Jay, Manuel and Clifton Tilton; and four sisters, Mae Sorenson, Mary Harvey, Mertie Tilton and Stella Tilton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, with the Rev. Russell King officiating. Burial will be in the Ransom Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Village Van Fund or the Gideons.
